JAMES WILLIAM DAVID ‘BILL’ LIDKEA

The family of James William David “Bill” Lidkea announces with deep sadness his passing on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the NHS-Ontario Site at the age of 74.
Cherished husband and best friend of Wilma for 52 years; and cherished father of David (Debbie), the late Anne, survived by her husband, Chris Sones, and John (Cindy).
Grandpa, Poppa also will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Robert (Debbie), Sara (Angelo), Cameron (Kristi), Trevor (Jodi), Brandon (Kate), Eric and Alycia, special person to Sharon and Sharlene; and his great-grandchildren, Sophie, Charlotte, Hannah and Dezirae, David and Airiana, whom he couldn’t stop bragging about.
Son of the late Willard and Marylano Lidkea; and loving brother of John (Bette) and Robert (Margaret).
He was predeceased by his brothers, Harrison and Victor; and sister, Pauline.
Beloved brother-in-law of James and Karen Bennett, and Thelma and the late John Berry. Beloved uncle of many special nieces and nephews, and long-time friends, John and Mary Lou Hartman.
No matter what endeavours Bill took on, he did his best and excelled. His lifelong career as a social worker, first with FACS of Niagara and then in his own private practice as a family counsellor.
Bill was an avid Bruce Trail hiker until poor health took that pleasure away. Bill then was resigned to walk in the malls or outside, weather permitting.
Bill was a truly dedicated NDP’er for 44 years, a member of Mel Swart-Lake Gibson Park, a peer volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation for many years, and a faithful, active member of St. John’s Anglican Church in Thorold.
Bill touched so many hearts and was touched by so many hearts.
Bill and Wilma had many wonderful and unforgettable adventures and some sad ones, but always coped well together.
At Bill’s request, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will take place at a later date in April.
