On September 14, 2021, James Richard Hayes of Off Lake, Ont., passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side, just the way he wanted. He was born March 3, 1946, to James and Marjorie Hayes.

Jim began his life’s journey guiding at the age of 12 and while sitting in the back of a boat he learned many life lessons.

Jim and Marlene eloped March 25, 1969, and in 1970 they began a family. Jim said, “We have enough boys in this family” and was happy to have two daughters, Tracey and Michelle.

In his younger days Jim worked in the bush, logging to provide for his family. Over the years he and Marlene owned and operated three fishing resorts on Loon Lake, Pipestone and Lac Seul, where they made many life long friends. Jim and his “darling” retired in 2003 to spend their summers at pipestone listening to the loons.

Jim was predeceased by his wife Marlene; his parents James and Marjorie; and his grandson Jason.

Left behind to “carry on” are his daughters Tracey (Riley), Michelle (John); grandchildren Tom (Kailey), Jessica (Mac), Julia (Ty), James (Katie), Jack (Keely); great-grandchildren Greyson and Lilian; brothers Brad, Shane (Chris); niece and nephew Andrea and Sam; and great-nephews Shane and Wyatt; and much more extended family.

Rather than a funeral the family will have a private celebration of life.
If desired memorial donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Emo Hospital, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.0. Box 89, Emo, Ontario, P0W 1E0.
