JAMES MICHAEL ‘JIM’ PLUMRIDGE

James “Jim” Plumridge, aged 68 years, of 715 Third Street West, Fort Frances, Ontario passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital on Wednesday, September 26, 2001.
Jim was born September 13, 1933 in Fort Frances, Ontario to the late Lyle and Elizabeth Plumridge. On November 5, 1952, he was united in marriage to Viola “Vi” Izzard. Jim worked for Riverside Garage in Fort Frances for a short time in 1951/52, and later for West End Motors as partsman for 17 years. In 1969, Jim began work with the Fort Frances Rainy River Board of Education as a caretaker in a number of schools until his retirement on June 30, 1994 following 25 years of employment. As a youth, Jim enjoyed playing league hockey and later Liniment League. He played fastball in the town league until he was fifty, when he retired from ball and tried his hand at golf. Jim was an avid bowler. He bowled in the Wednesday and Friday Mixed League, the Tuesday Nite Men’s League, and recently in the Thursday afternoon Golden Age Club. Weekends would find Jim participating in local bowling tournaments. He enjoyed watching sports on T.V., and he followed his son’s slow pitch team, where you would find him coaching first base. Jim loved to play guitar and sing for his family and friends, and recently joined the Church Choir. He spent time on the lakes fishing and duck hunting on Mainville Lake and Red Gut Bay, and visited at friends’ cabins on Footprint and Jackfish Lakes. He spent quality time with Katy, Merle, and their family at Pipestone, Off Lake and Nestor Falls. Jim also enjoyed travelling to places like, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Florida and every province from Ontario to British Columbia.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Walter Michael McFayden; three sisters, Mable and her husband Maurice Dolph, Ann and her husband Gaston Camirand, and Jane Larson; one brother, Maurice Plumridge; two brothers-in-law, Oliver (Bud) Rousseau, and John Huntley; and one sister-in-law, Susan Izzard.
Jim is survived by his wife Viola (Vi) Plumridge of Fort Frances, Ont.; his daughter Kathleen, and husband Merle McFayden of Nestor Falls, Ont., his son William Plumridge and wife Janet of Fort Frances, Ont.; two grandsons, Jason McFayden and wife Kelly of Nestor Falls, Ont., and Neil Plumridge of Fort Frances, Ont., one granddaughter, Susan McFayden of Nestor Falls, Ont., four brothers, Joseph Plumridge and wife Maxine of Fort Frances, Ont., Paul Plumridge and wife Rosylen of Moose Jaw, Sask., Gilbert Plumridge and wife Marlene of Grand Cache, Alta., and Monroe Plumridge and wife Betty of Fort Frances, Ont.; three sisters-in-law, Winnie Rousseau of Winnipeg, Mb., Irene Huntley of Fort Frances, Ont., and Ethel and husband Howard Raper of Brechen, Ont.; three brothers-in-law, William Izzard and wife Mary of Carstairs, Alta., Frank Izzard and wife Mavis of Quesnel Lake, B.C., and Einar Larsen of Romeoville, Ill.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ontario with Father Eugene Whyte O.M.I. officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Friends may visit with family at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
Honourary pallbearers will be Derald and Bev McCool, Ed and Jean Kaun, Jack and Carol Booth, and Marie Gregory.
