JAMES ‘JIM’ HANDORGAN
Jim Handorgan, 79, of Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing(Big Island First Nation), Ont., passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born April 27, 1927 at Lake of the Woods, Ont. to Bill and Marie Handorgan. He lived and worked in the Lake of the Woods area all of his life.
He held various jobs with local tourist camps; and worked in logging, trapping, and commercial fishing, as well. He enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the casinos, doing crosswords, and working on the family photo albums.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Sarah; second wife, Evelyn; brothers, William and John; and infant daughter, Elaine.
He leaves behind his children, Albert Handorgan of Portage La Prairie, Man., and Patrick (Virginia) Handorgan and Arlene (Edmund) Indian, all of Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing (Big Island First Nation, Ont.); grandchildren, T.J. Handorgan, Ikwezens Sarah Eliza Handorgan/Brown, Patrick and Ashley Gibbins, Nicole Handorgan, Jaysen, Lisa, and Steven Indian, and Natasha Batt; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Edward Jack-Gibbins, Lucas Jack-Gibbins, Rayne Feather Gibbins, Keenan Little, and Jilianna, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Allysa, Stephanie, Tharon, Anthony, Jenay, Hayla, and Purity Indian.
Also surviving is his sister, Victoria Handorgan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Hall.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Hall, with Pastor Wally Detweiler officiating.
Interment will be in the Morson Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Jim’s family and friends.
