James (Jim H.) Kelly

James (Jim H.) Kelly, 68, of Sabaskong First Nation, Ont., passed away at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, Ont., on Sunday, May 5, 2002.
He was born Feb. 24, 1934 in Sabaskong First Nation and lived there all of his life. On Feb. 3, 1957, he was united in marriage to Corrine Herbert.
Jim worked as foreman in construction at Sabaskong First Nation, and also taught carpentry to others prior to his retirement in the 1990s. Jim also drove school bus from Sabaskong to Sioux Narrows for about 10-15 years.
Throughout the years, he enjoyed deer hunting, trapping, and guiding, and was well-known as a great legend teller.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mary Kelly; three children, Connie, Rick, and Clyde Kelly; two grandchildren, Gus Copenace Jr. (Mork) and Cher Lynn Cowley; two brothers, George and Edward Kelly; and one sister, Victoria.
Jim H. is survived by his wife, Corrine Kelly of Sabaskong First Nation, Ont.; nine children, Lawrence Kelly and wife, Brenda, Pam and husband, Gus Copenace, Harry Kelly and wife, Leona, Susan Kelly and James Yerxa, James Kelly Jr. and Nancy Sandy, Lisa Kelly and Lawrence Tom, Amy Kelly and Brian Paul, Janice and husband, Merlin Sandy, and Loretta Kelly and Jamie Leonard, all of Sabaskong First Nation, Ont.; 23 grandchildren; and one-great-granddaughter, Latasha Copenace.
Also surviving are three brothers, Colin Kelly and wife, Juanita, John Jim Kelly and wife, Cathrine, and Bobby Kelly and wife, Dolores, all of Sabaskong First Nation, Ont.; two sisters, Mary Kelly of Sabaskong First Nation, Ont., and Alice and husband, Danny Hoard, of Atikokan, Ont.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 10, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Sabaskong First Nation Gymna-sium in Sabaskong First Nation. Fr. Al Campeau will officiate, with interment in Sabaskong First Nation Cemetery.
A wake will be held Thursday, May 9, 2002 from 1 p.m. at Sabaskong First Nation Gymna-sium.
Pallbearers will be Joe Jack, Charlie Kelly, Chris Kelly, Sheldon Kelly, Clarence Kelly, and Neil Herbert.
Honourary pallbearers will be John Jim Kelly, Colin Kelly, Bobby Kelly, Uncle John Madden, Johnny Comegan, and Leonard Morrison.
