Jake Kehler, 76, of 301 Kerr Place, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000.
He was born Jan. 7, 1924 in Altona, Man. to the late Henry and Sarah Kehler.
Jake worked in Thunder Bay, Ont. as a diesel mechanic for a few years. In 1950, he moved to Fort Frances, where he began Jake Kehler Construction, which he operated for many years until his passing.
He was an avid curler, and in 1986, attended the senior nationals in Portage LaPrairie, Man. For enjoyment, he loved baseball and golf, and bridge.
He also was a member of the Masonic Granite Lodge #446 A.F. & A.M. in Fort Frances. Over the years, Jake enjoyed his trips to Vegas, and adored his dog “Molly.”
He was predeceased by two brothers, Vernon and Harvey Kehler.
Jake is survived by his wife, Lynn Kehler of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sisters, Anne and husband, Peter Braun, and Della Klippenstine, all of Altona, Man.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances. Rev. Bob and Myrna Stark will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. A Masonic Granite Lodge service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jim Lowey, Glenn Carmody, Jim Brow, Gaston Sanders, Morris Wonfor, Clint Barton, Ed Katona, and Peter Braun.
Honourary pallbearers will be Dick Kircher, Carl Schaum, Herb Cridland, Bob Lidkea, Van Green, Bruce Holmlund, Walter Hartnell, and Frank Eisenzoph.
