IVY ALMEDA ANGUS (IRVINE)

It is with utmost sadness the family of Ivy Almeda Angus announces her peaceful passing on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Atikokan General Hospital at the age of 87.

Ivy was born on October 7, 1933, in Fort Frances, Ont. to John and Ethel (Stewart) Irvine and spent her early years on their farm in Mather Township with her four siblings. She attended the Mather 8 one room school on horseback in all kinds of weather. With school completed she worked in local tourist camps for a couple of summers.

On May 7, 1952, she married Ellwood Angus and they began farming north of Barwick. Ivy embraced the hard work and long hours required to make farming a success. She particularly loved gardening and working with the cattle. Winters were extremely busy as she ran all aspects of the farm while her husband worked in logging bush camps. All this was in addition to raising her son and running the household.

In 1967 the farm was sold, and the family moved to Atikokan so Ellwood could pursue bush work full-time. For the first time in her life, Ivy had such luxuries as running water and electricity. Now she had more time to pursue her interests in quilting and crocheting. Her afghans were distributed widely among family and friends. The flower and vegetable gardens at 1227 O’Brien St. were the envy of all the neighbours.

Throughout the years, Ivy enjoyed hiking the Charleson area with friends, family, and pets. In 2019 she could still be seen regularly walking up the Lone Pine Hill.

As time went on, Ivy’s family grew to include her two granddaughters and eventually three great-grandsons. She loved her family unconditionally and was always there when needed.

Ivy is survived by her son Randy (Judy) Angus; granddaughters Tiffany (Keith) and Tracy (James); and great-grandsons Coby, Davion, and Isaac; sisters-in-law Edith Irvine, Marg Irvine, Reta Westover, Grace Angus, and Joyce (Len) Jackson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ivy was predeceased by her husband Ellwood (2000); parents John and Ethel Irvine; sisters Ida Galusha and Eva Angus; brothers Sid and Fred Irvine; parents in-law Leslie and Mildred Angus; sisters in-law Dorothy Thompson and Lois Brusven; brothers in-law John, Arnold and Russell Angus, George Thompson, Ross Westover, Gene Brusven and Elra Galusha.

As per her request, there will be no service, however donations can be made to the Atikokan General Hospital, Box 2490, Atikokan, ON P0T 1C0. Online condolences may be offered at www.northridgefuneralhome.com.
