Sadly, the family announces the passing of Isabelle Marie (Grouette) Gagne, 89, on Sunday, July 16, 2017, with her family by her side, at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ont.
Isabelle was born on June 24, 1928 to David and Vitaline Grouette of Sprague, Man.
She married her sweetheart, George Gagne, on Oct. 21, 1947 in Pinewood, Ont.
Before being married, Isabelle first worked at St. Boniface Hospital, then at the hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., and lastly at Black Bear Camp in Nestor Falls, Ont.
Isabelle had moved to Pinewood in 1942 with her parents.
Her passion was sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting, crafts, and playing cards, especially playing Smear with her granddaughter, Candace.
She coached the Pinewood girls’ baseball team–and what a team they were! She also loved fishing, gardening, and keeping her husband, George, company while he went hunting.
Isabelle will be lovingly remembered by her children, Donald (Jean) Gagne of Balmertown, Ont., Linda (Larry) Rothwell of Rainy River, Ont., Paul (Linda) Gagne of Balmertown, Ont., and Michelle (Lenard) Bourre of Winnipeg, Man.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, David and Vitaline; husband, George; infant daughter, Salonge; and siblings, Emile Grouette and Emma Larson.
Funeral mass was held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Rainy River, with Fr. Alan Lapay officiating.
Interment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
The honourary pallbearers were Rachel Korchak, Evelyn Bourre, Bonnie Wolframe, and Yolanda Pecz.
