ISABEL RUTH (WHALEN) ROSTE

Isabel Roste, of 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 in her 92nd year.
Born in Winnipeg, Man. on April 8, 1918, Isabel was the last surviving child of the late Daniel and Ruth Whalen.
As a young girl, she and her family lived in Winnipeg, Duluth, Mn., and Thunder Bay, Ont. until finally settling in Fort Frances. She was the eldest of four children.
Isabel completed her education in Fort Frances and later attended nursing school in Winnipeg.
On Dec. 10, 1938, she married Glen Roste. Together, Isabel and Glen had four children, Daniel, Wayne, Joan, and Barry.
They resided in Fort Frances with their business, Rostes Maple Leaf Bakery, until moving to Hopkins Bay on Rainy Lake, where they owned and operated the Four Winds Tourist Cottages.
Then, due to health reasons, Isabel spent her last few years at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
Isabel was a past member of the Order of the Royal Purple and the Fort Frances Curling Club, a member of St. Mary’s Church, and a founding member of the Fort Frances Catholic Women’s League.
She was a very humble and modest lady who devoted her life to her family.
 Isabel was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Ruth Whalen; brother, Francis Whalen; brother, Dean Whalen and sister-in-law, Gladys Whalen; sister, Fern Weir and brother-in-law, Harper Weir; son-in-law, Les Anderson; beloved son, Wayne Roste; and beloved husband, Glen Roste; as well as many other family members and dear friends.
Isabel is survived by her son, Dan, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; daughter, Joan Anderson of Fort Frances, Ont.; son, Barry (Lynne) of Winnipeg, Man.; daughter-in-law, Jackie Roste of Barrie, Ont.; and grandchildren, Chris, David, and Glen Roste, Cynde Anderson, Scott Roste, Sherri Halloway, Todd Anderson, Joleigh McKinnon, and Cassidy and Brooke Roste, along with their spouses and their children.
She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass for Isabel will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Puddicherry officiating.
A luncheon will follow at St. Mary’s Church Hall.
Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Isabel’s nephews, Murray Weir, Rick Whalen, David Whalen, Kevin Whalen, and Peter Spuzak.
The C.W.L. will provide the honour guard.
