It is with great sadness that the family of Irene Lillian Huntley announces her passing on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Rainycrest Long Term Care, Fort Frances, Ontario.
Irene was born on January 7, 1933 in Eriksdale, Manitoba to Arthur and Abelone Izzard. She came to Fort Frances in the 1940’s and married Jack Huntley on October 27, 1950. She worked at various resturants in Fort Frances and was well known for her birthday and wedding cakes. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed doing crafts and quilting. She was the first Fire Chief in Miscampbell and was instrumental in bringing smoke detectors to the unorganized communities. Irene was a Honourary Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Ladies Auxiliary, having served for over 40 years.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband Jack; son Gordon; son-in-law Dan LaRocque; brothers William and Frank Izzard and sister Ethel Raper.
Irene leaves behind her son Art Huntley of Ignace, ON; daughters Linda LaRocque and Jane Hayes o Fort Frances, ON; daughter-in-law Lorraine; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sisters Winnie Rousseau and Viola Plumridge; sisters-in-law Mavis Izzard, Betty Huntley and Stella Huntley; brother-in-law Howard Raper as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON with Reverend MJ Leewis-Kirk AOJN officiating. Interment will take place in the Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
The pallbearers will be Brad LaRocque, Jason LaRocque, Teressa Darrah, Laureen Beadle, Chris Hayes, Candice Prior, Darryl Prior, Graham Huntley, Amber Huntley, Tyler Huntley and Angela Shank.
The honorary pallbearers will be Joe Gervais, Eleanor Turewich, Patty Webb, Audrey Forester, Gertie Bujold and the LaVerendrye Hospital Dialysis Nurses.
A tribute will be provided by the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
