Irene Villeneuve, 75, of 632 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Tuesday, October 28, 1997.
She was born April 1, 1922 in Bergland, Ont. to the late Norval and Alma Brusven. On Feb. 21, 1942 in Kenora, Ont., Irene was united in marriage to Leo Villeneuve.
From 1952 until 1953, she owned and operated the “Coffee Cup” Cafe in Fort Frances. Irene also worked for many years as a cook at several tourist camps throughout Rainy River District.
She was an avid gardener, and animal lover of all kinds, especially cats and dogs. Irene also enjoyed oil painting, bowling, playing guitar, and singing, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Ladies’ Auxiliary and a life-time member of the Legion.
Irene also was a member of Knox United Church, and actively helped with the church letters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Villeneuve; and by two sisters, Ethel Sutherland in 1982 and Dorothy Zrobak.
Irene is survived by one daughter, Joanne and husband, Keith Gosselin, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two grandchildren, Sandra Gosselin of Emo, Ont., and Warren Gosselin and wife, Margaret, and their son, Tylar, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; good friend and life-long companion, George Howard, and best friend, Buffy; one brother, Norman Brusven and wife, Bonnie, of Barwick, Ont.; two sisters, Olga Dahlberg of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Dagney Roulston of Debolt, Alta.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Patrick Playfair will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit prior to the service on Saturday morning at Green Funeral Home.
