It is with great sadness that the family of Iona Godin announces her passing on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 in Winnipeg, Man.
Iona was born Oct. 4, 1939 to the late Fred and Fay (Radke) Warren. She was raised in Gameland, Ont., where her father ran Warren’s Service, an auto body shop.
Iona loved all kinds of old cars and for her, it was always the highlight of the parade when the old cars appeared.
She was united in marriage to Emil Godin on Nov. 9, 1963 in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved nature and the outdoors, and was a quiet gentle woman with a great sense of humour.
She enjoyed spending as much time with her family as she could.
After her children grew up, Iona worked as a home care worker for several years.
She was always thinking of her family, and never forgot a birthday or special occasion. She was an avid knitter and made beautiful sweaters and toys for her grandchildren that will be cherished for generations.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Gilbert.
Iona will be greatly missed by her children, Mike Godin, Cindy (Dave) Hamilton, and Teresa (Tony) McDowell; grandchildren, Mathieu, Kyle, Tori, Tina, Travis, and Cheyenne; her longtime companion, Irvin Selman; her remaining brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Iona’s life was held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Knox United Church in Rainy River, Ont., with lay pastor Carolyn Kreger officiating.
The honorary pallbearers were Darlene Armstrong, Marjorie Stinzi, Jocelyn Johnson, and Almer Godin.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Rainy River Health Centre c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
