Ingval Olson, 95, of Emo, Ont., formerly of Stratton, Ont., passed away at Emo Hospital in Emo on Friday, Jan. 7, 2000.
He was born April 24, 1904 in Rolette, N.D. to the late Jorgan and Inger Olson. In 1915, Ingval moved with his family to Canada, and settled in Tait Township, Ont.
In 1936, he married Jennie Morken, who predeceased him in the following year.
Ingval, often riding the rails, went out west, where he ranched and harvested for six years. Upon returning home in 1943, he was united in marriage to Ida Morken on Feb. 3. Soon afterwards, the couple started to raise their family north of Stratton, where Ingval farmed and drove truck.
In 1955, they moved to McKenzie Island, where Ingval was employed at the McKenzie/Red Lake Gold Mine. In 1961, the family returned to Stratton, where he drove school bus, trapped, and logged until his retirement in 1969.
Ingval loved trapping, hunting, the great outdoors, travelling, socializing, story-telling, and his many visits with family and friends. In 1994, Ingval and Ida moved to a garden suite at Donnie and Sharon’s.
He was predeceased by eight brothers, Osmond, Jorgen, Ole, Melvin, twin brother Leonard, Arthur, Arthur, and Carl; and also by eight sisters, Inga, Johanna, Lilly, Alma, Lilly, Olga, Kay, and Myrtle.
Ingval is survived by his wife, Ida Olson of Emo, Ont.; two sons, Stanley Olson and wife, Irene, of Stratton, Ont., and Benny Olson and wife, Jeannie, of Stony Plain, Alta.; two daughters, Shirley McClain, and Sharon and husband, Don Strom, all of Emo, Ont.; grandchildren, Rick Bolen and his children, Jamie and Bradley, Jerry Bolen and wife, Susan, and their children, Adam and Katie, Kelly, Sheldon, and Aaron Olson, Kendall and Jeff McClain, ShirLynn and husband, Chuck Pelton, Jason Strom and wife, Wendy, and Tammy and husband, Olaf Skjenna; great-grandchildren, Jason Jr. and Jalena Strom; his special sister, Alice Valdock of Kenora, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ingval will be dearly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbour.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont. Mr. Alton Mose and Mr. Bruce Waddell officiated, with interment in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
Friends visited Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Rick Bolen, Jerry Bolen, Kelly Olson, Sheldon Olson, Aaron Olson, Kendall McClain, Jeff McClain, ShirLynn Pelton, Jason Strom, and Tammy Skjenna.
