Hugh Brian McCoy, of 2909 Green St., Richard’s Landing (St. Joseph’s Island), passed away Oct. 23, 2002 at the Plummer Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Hugh was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on Sept. 8, 1942. He attended Robert Moore and Fort Frances High School, and played hockey for the Fort Frances Royals.
He was united in marriage to Cathryn Martinsen of International Falls, Mn. on May 23, 1965. They lived in Fort Frances for a few years until he was transferred with Bell Canada. They lived in several communities and finally, in 1975, settled in Sault Ste. Marie.
He coached minor hockey for several years and in later years curled.
Hugh retired from the Real Estate Department of Bell in 1994 and in 1995, they moved to their property at Richard’s Landing, where they built their dream home.
He enjoyed carpenter work and spent quite a bit of time doing it.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cathryn (Katy) in July, 2000; parents, Joe and Jessie McCoy; and brother, Ross.
He is survived by their children, Kirsten of Richard’s Landing, Matthew (fiance, Kelly) of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Rachael (Peter) Scornaiencki and their daughter, Caitlyn, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
Also surviving are four sisters, Grace (George) Roy of Fort Frances, Ont., Marilyn (Ken) McKinnon of Devlin, Ont., Sandra (Jack) McConnell of Bredenbury, Sask., and Debra (Rob) Pihulak of Dryden, Ont.; and one brother, Gordon (Lynne) of Kenora, Ont.
Cremation has taken place and at Hugh’s request, no service was held.
