Howard Willie, 59, of Seine River First Nation, Ont., passed away Saturday, May 1, 1999 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born April 8, 1949 in Mine Centre, Ont. to the late Ackley and Mary Willie.
Howard had lived all his life in Rainy River District and had worked as a pulpcutter. He also worked at commercial fishing and trapping. He loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed reading and sketching pictures.
Howard was united in marriage April 15, 1984 to the former Doris Whitecrow, who survives with five children, Lorraine (Dennis Jones) of Redgut First Nation, Darlene (John Cochrane) of Stanjikoming First Nation, Sheldon Whitecrow of Seine River First Nation, Ringo Whitecrow of Thunder Bay, and Camilla (Fred Ottertail) of Lac La Croix First Nation.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; a cousin, Rudy (Pam) Whitecrow and their two children; four brothers, Henry, Richard, Joe, and Gabriel and his children; three sisters, Christine and her children, Jane and her children, Narda and her children; and in-laws, Judy and Ernie Byrd, Salina and Norman Girard, Sue-Anne and Bob Pringle, Joseph and Mary Whitecrow, and Howard Whitecrow and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, George Willie; sister, Frances McLellan; mother-in-law, Irene Whitecrow; father-in-law, Joseph Whitecrow Sr.; brother-in-law, Leonard Whitecrow; and sister-in-law, Cecile Whitecrow.
A traditional burial service will be held Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Howard and Doris Willie’s residence at Seine River First Nation. Elder Jim Boshkaykin will officiate, with interment in the family plot at Seine River First Nation.
A funeral wake will be held Tuesday, May 4, 1999 from 3 p.m. at Howard and Doris Willie’s residence at Seine River First Nation.
