HOWARD JAMES (HOWIE) COSTELLO

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Howard James Costello, 88, on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Howie will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Eva (Evans). Howie and Eva were married in Rainy River, Ont. on Sept. 6, 1949 and spent their time dedicating their lives to each other.
Howie was born Sept. 19, 1921 in Winnipeg, Man. to Christopher and Sadie McCauley (McKay). He loved his family and shared many stories of the lessons learned and the fun he had with his parents and siblings, Mildred (Calvert), Muriel (Keenene), and Lorne.
Howie spent his early years and attended school in Rainy River. He was very proud of his service to his country during World War II and his participation in the liberation of Holland.
Upon his return to Canada, he resumed employment with the CNR in Rainy River and later moved to Fort Frances. He retired after 40 years of service and was able to enjoy 30 wonderful years of retirement.
Howie and Eva enjoyed travelling, camping, curling, and spending time with family. He also was a longtime member of the Anglican Church, the Masonic Granite Lodge #446 GRC, and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Howie will be sadley missed by his loving wife, Eva; his sister-in-law, Marguerite Wrolstad; and his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his siblings; his nephew, Howard Jim Tyne; and his niece, Maria Tyne.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating, along with participation by the Masons and the Legion Honour Guard.
Interment will follow the service in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Howie’s nephews.
The honourary pallbearers will be Rodney Hinrichs, Jerry Hinrichs, Robert Sletmoen, Claude DeBenedet, Arnold Brown, Henry Gosselin, James Ducharme, and Peter Wilkins.
