Horace M. Bowes, 82, of 1323 Fifth St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 1998 at Riverside Health Care Facilities Inc. with his family at his side.
Horace was born Nov. 1, 1915 in Newcastle, England and emigrated to Canada in 1924, where he settled in Hamilton, Ont. He later worked briefly for Canada Car.
Travelling across Canada in the Depression, he liked the Rainy River District and decided to settle here. He worked for a number of years in the bush, and later owned and operated his own logging business.
On Dec. 26, 1938, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Campbell of International Falls, Mn.
In 1964, Horace worked in Prince George, B.C. as haul-foreman for McDermit and Lofting Co., returning again the following winter to the same job.
Later, he started a tourist camp at Manion Lake and after 16 years there, he semi-retired and became supervisor of the Junior Ranger Camp at Cuttle Lake.
He is survived by his wife and three sons, Richard, Brian, and Mark; three brothers, Walter, Eric, and Robin; one sister, Vera; and eight grandchildren.
Cremation will take place in Thunder Bay.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
