It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Hilda Yerxa on Saturday, July 2, 2016.
Hilda was born on Oct. 11, 1939 on Rainy Lake to Jack and Rose Spencer. She was raised in Seine River First Nation, moving to Couchiching First Nation following her marriage to Robert Yerxa Sr. in 1958. Together they raised their family of nine children.
She worked for various businesses as well, including time as a seamstress at Fleeceland. Hilda loved to sew. She was continually making regalia for her grandchildren and family.
She enjoyed attending pow-wows and being outdoors. She took her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on many adventures in her canoe, teaching them about the outdoors and the traditional way of life.
She was blessed to raise three of her granddaughters as her own: Ashley Yerxa, Cassandra Corbeil and Kayla Yerxa. As her health faded and she slipped into dementia, she never forgot the faces of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; she loved them deeply and held them close to her.
She leaves behind her children, Donna (Bill) Perrault, Robert (Chug) Yerxa Jr., Allan (Tracy) Yerxa, Sandy Yerxa (John Sinclair), John (Pamela) Yerxa, and Patrick Yerxa; siblings, Rosie Spencer, George (Agnes) Spencer, Dave Spencer, and Steve (Susan) Spencer; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Hilda was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert; children, Ron Yerxa, Judy (Clifford) LeGarde, Peggy Yerxa and Baby Yerxa; siblings, Margaret Spencer and Robert (Poke) Spencer; and grandchildren, Robin White, Ethan White, Bobbi White, and Ron Perrault.
A traditional wake will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 5 p.m. at the Couchiching First Nation Multi-Use Facility.
A traditional burial ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Couchiching First Nation Multi-Use Facility. Elder Andrew Johnson will officiate with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
