HILDA MAIN

Hilda Main, of 960 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., surrounded by her family and close friends, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999 at La Verendrye General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 10, 1918 to the late John and Anna Clark in Haille Cumberland, England, Hilda was raised and educated there. During WWII, she worked on transport as a warden and at the Salvation Army assisting military personnel.
She met Alexander “Bud” Main while he served in the R.C.A.F. in England. They married Jan. 1, 1945 in Haille Cumberland, and moved to Bud’s hometown of Fort Frances the following year.
Hilda was a member at the Zion Lutheran Church and choir. She was a past Noble Grand of the Redwing Rebekah Lodge, member of the C.P.&T. (Humanitarian Services), member of the Overseas Wives Club, member of the Royal Purple Lodge #139, past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29, a member of the Scandinavian Club, and the birthday club.
Hilda will always be remembered for her “spunk,” her kindness shown to others in their time of need, and also for her love of companionship. She will be truly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bud Main, on Jan. 26, 1976; one brother, John Clark; and special friend, Paul Verrier.
Hilda is survived by son, Robert Main and wife, Donna, of Fort Frances; daughter, Betty and husband, Garry Pederson, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; four grandchildren, Tressa and Keira Main, both of Fort Frances, Nadine and husband, Brian Trottier, of Calgary, Alta., and Christopher Pederson and wife, Ingrid, of Halifax, N.S.; and two nephews, Colin and Fred Clark, both of England.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her wonderful neighbours and friends who supported and cared for her in the last few years. Also thanks to Dr. Elaine Spencer, CCAC (Case manager, social worker, homemaker, and V.O.N.), LVGH ambulance, emergency and St. Andrew’s staff.

Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service to celebrate Hilda’s life will be held Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church. Prior to the service at 10:30 a.m., the Rebekah Lodge will conduct a short service in Hilda’s honour.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, Hilda requests that donations be made to either the Zion Lutheran Church Choir Loft Fund or the C.P.&T. (Humanitarian Services).
