It is with great sorrow that the family of Hilda Hoffman announces her passing on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born March 26, 1915 in Rainy River, Ont. to Knut and Johanna Swenson. She grew up in Bergland, Ont. and then attended high school in Rainy River.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth Hoffman on May 24, 1940.
As well as working within the family business, she spent much time in volunteer activites, including United Church Women’s Auxiliary, Rainycrest Auxiliary, and the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary.
She also was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Redwing Rebeckah Lodge.
She enjoyed gardening, cabin life, travelling, knitting, crocheting, and crafting, as well as spending time with family and friends. She also was an avid bridge player, continuing to play right up until her recent hospitalization.
She was especially proud of the fact that she reached the age of 100 years, and enjoyed her birthday party with family and friends.
Hilda leaves behind her children, Gerald (Susan) Hoffman, Carol (Ray) Bujold, and Linda (Robin) Reed, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Angela (Reece) Mitchelson of Hinton, Alta., Jennifer (Darcy) Brown of Cambridge, Ont., Mark (Molly) Bujold of Edmonton, Alta., Christopher (Melanie) Reed of Winnipeg, Man., and Heather Reed (Shannon Penney) of Thompson, Man.; and great-grandchildren, Roen, Garon, and Briar Mitchelson, Jillian and Carter Brown, Trenton and Blake Reed, and Emily and Brady Penney.
She also leaves to mourn her brother-in-law, Lloyd (Arlene) Hoffman of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilda was predeceased by her parents; husband, Kenneth on April 16, 2009; sisters, Thelma Johnson and Myrtle McKinnon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Johnson, Nels McKinnon, Violet and Matt Firmenich, Dorothy and Ray Culp, and Ivor and Clarence Hoffman; niece, Joan Denton; nephews, Ken Johnson, Kelvin McKinnon, and Glen Hoffman; and grandson, Jeffrey Reed.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
