Hilda Cotton, 87, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Hilda was born Dec. 31, 1918 in La Vallee, Ont. to the late Walter and Mary McFayden. She had lived all of her life in Rainy River District.
In her younger years, she enjoyed travelling to Florida, where she took up numerous crafts. She also was very active in numerous activities held at Flinders Place in Fort Frances.
She also had worked in the kitchen at La Verendrye General Hospital.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking meals, and celebrating birthdays and other special occasions. She also loved cooking for crowds, which included brunches at the lake.
She was a member of the Knox United Church, the U.C.W. and also taught Sunday School in Fort Frances and Rainy River. She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Grand Adah of the Grand Chapter of Ontario, and a former member of the Redwing Rebekkah Lodge.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Mudge of Fort Frances, Ont.; and two grandchildren, Lisa Johnston of Winnipeg, Man. and her son, Erin, and Guy (Judy) Mudge of Fort Frances, Ont. and their daughter, Ashley.
Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Muriel McFayden of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilda was predeceased by her first husband and Joan’s father, John Edward Smith; her second husband, Harold Cotton; her parents, Walter and Mary McFayden; brothers, Borden McFayden and Angus McFayden and his wife, Ruby; sister, Bessie and her husband, Ralph Foster; and son-in-law, George Mudge.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
