Mr. Herman Loveday, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 at home.
Herman was born June 23, 1926 in Saskatchewan to Charles and Lily Loveday. He moved with his family to Kingsford Township, Ont. at an early age, where he grew up and attended school.
On Oct. 6, 1948, Herman was united in marriage to Evelyn Brigham. Their first home was at Mando Camp 309, near Caliper Lake.
This home then was moved to the property in Mather Township, where they resided for the next 54 years, raising their family of five children.
Herman worked his entire life in the logging and construction industry, going into business for himself in 1956 with the purchase of his first truck. He operated his business until suffering a stroke in March, 1983.
After recovering from his stroke, he returned to logging as a hobby, taking great pride in his accomplishments and the perfectly-aligned loads of pulpwood piled in his yard.
Herman also loved to hunt, taking it up at an early age. Hunting was a pastime he pursued at every opportunity, graciously sharing his bounty with family, friends, and neighbours.
In retirement years, Herman attended the Off Lake Covenant Church, where he made many good friends and always enjoying the fellowship of everyone who attended.
Herman was a good neighbour and willing to help anyone who needed him. He was the first one out, with whatever piece of equipment he had available, to clear everyone’s driveway after a winter storm.
The loss of Herman’s two sons, Duane and Mark, were tragedies from which he never recovered. Although his words were few, deep inside he suffered their loss immensely.
Herman is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn Loveday (nee Brigham); and his children, Larry (Dianna), Donald (Linda), and Joan (Bernie).
Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren, Rhonda Loveday-Spuzak (Corey), Bradley Loveday (Marcy), Patrick Carruthers (Dawn), Duane Loveday Jr. (Sherry), and Jonathan Loveday.
Herman also is survived by several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, five sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
Herman was pre-deceased by his parents; his in-laws; brothers, Leonard, Chris, and Raymond; as well as his sons, Duane Walter Loveday Sr. and Mark Charles Loveday.
Funeral services were held at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont. on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, with visitation at noon preceding the service at 1 p.m.
Rev. Eileen Bragg officiated.
The pallbearers were Duane Loveday, Mark Loveday, Brad Loveday, Patrick Carruthers, Marcy Loveday, and Rhonda Loveday-Spuzak.
Interment to take place at a later date in the Finland Cemetery.
