Herbert James Nelson, 85, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River.
Herb was born March 23, 1923 in Rainy River to the late Albert and Edna Nelson. He served overseas during WW11, and was a honourary member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. # 54 in Rainy River.
Herb married Evelyn Drennan on Nov. 23, 1946 and together they resided in Rainy River. Herb enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Matheson Bay with his family and friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his granddaughters, Michelle Andy and Heather Andy; son-in-law, Edward Andy; and great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Lucius, all of Kenora, Ont.; sister, Dorothy Stacinski of Thunder Bay, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Alice Brown of Fort Frances, Ont. and Vivian (Bob) Locking of Rainy River, Ont.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Herb was predeceased by his parents; wife, Evelyn (2004); daughter, Linda Andy (2007); brother, Ronald Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Philip Stacinski, Leo Brown, Laverne Drennan, and Ernie Drennan. and sister-in-law Marvel Drennan.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the McInnes Creek Chapel. Pastor Gord Armstrong will officiate, accompanied by the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #54 Colour Party.
Interment will take place in McInnes Creek Cemetery.
Reception to follow the service at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #54 in Rainy River. Honourary pallbearers will be Jim Drennan, Bennett Drennan, Edward Andy, David Brown, Dennis Peltier, Hugh Jensson, Bill Marmus Jr.
