In this time of sorrow, we sadly announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Henry Joseph Asselin, 74, of Donald Street, Pinewood, Ont., passed away peacefully at the Rainy River Hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999.
Henry is survived by his wife, Anne Marie; children, Randy Asselin and wife, Gail, of Pinewood, Terry Asselin of Pinewood, Loretta and husband, Ron Hosken, of Dryden, Debbie and husband, Ken Whalen, of Fort Frances, and Cindy and husband, John Ricci, of Rainy River.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Nicole, Tracy, Rebecca, Barry, Sonya, Gerrett, Ryan, Scott, and Janelle; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Christopher.
He also leaves behind one brother, Ed Asselin of Red Rock; three sisters, Toni Pollard of Vancouver, Diane Arnold of Winnipeg, and Delia Daley of Thunder Bay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Regina Asselin; brother, Phil Asselin; brothers-in-law, Clarence Daley and Jim Pollard; one nephew, David Asselin; one niece, Karen LaVallee, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Asselin.
Henry was born April 14, 1925 in Pinewood, Ont. and he spent all his life in the Pinewood area. He loved fishing, woodworking, spending time in his garden, and taking his family and friends for boat rides.
He was an active businessman, spending some years working for the Ministry of Transportation, retiring in 1980. Henry also served in the Canadian Army and was overseas from 1944-46.
Henry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #54 and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was united in marriage to Anne Marie Langleys on Aug. 27, 1947.
A funeral mass was held Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999 at Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic Church in Pinewood. Father James Panikulam officiated.
Cremation followed the service.
