Henry Enrico Dittaro passed away peacefully on Wednesday Aug. 17, 2005 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. with his family at his side.
Henry was born Aug. 6, 1919 in Milano, Italy to Lena and John Dittaro. The family moved to Canada when Henry was five, and they settled in Fort William, Ont. for one year before moving to Fort Frances.
Henry has lived here ever since, attending school and then joining the local pulp and paper mill. He retired from Boise Cascade in 1983.
On Sept. 19, 1940, he was united in marriage to Viola Kathleen Kerr and they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this fall.
When he was younger, Henry enjoyed gardening greatly. He was a very hard-working man who enjoyed helping others. He could always be found pitching in when his family and friends needed a hand.
Henry loved his family very deeply and was always there for them.
He was predeceased by his wife, Viola on May 10, 2005; daughters, Betty Ann St. Peter and Rosalyn Armit; son, John Dittaro; grandson, Ian James; brothers, Enzo and Fred Dittaro; and his parents.
Henry will be greatly missed by his daughter, Kathleen and husband, Bill James; son, Richard Dittaro and wife, Cammy, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Angelo Dittaro; sister, Chris and husband, Al Lowe, of Fort Frances; sisters-in-law, Doris Dittaro of British Columbia, Joyce Tilsbury of Alberta, Olive Erickson and Lois Milette, both of International Falls, Mn., and Gladys Kerr of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held Monday, Aug. 22, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.
Cremation has taken place, and Henry and Viola will be laid to rest together in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The honourary pallbearers will be Henry’s grandchildren, Kim Perrault, Audra Smith, Brian Armit, Barry Armit, Jennifer Dittaro, Chris Dittaro, Brad Dittaro, Corrine James, Shelley Oster, Deena James, Angelique LaFrance (Dittaro), and Nicole LaFrance (Dittaro).
