It is with great sadness that the family of Helene Sofronuk announces her passing on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
Helene was born June 7, 1926 in Winnipeg, Man. to the late Elko and Maria (Mary) Sofronuk.
She worked at Mel Newman Ltd. and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Red Hat Society, and local quilting club, and supported other community service organizations. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and caring for pets.
Helene is survived by her sister, Katherine Sofronuk of Fort Frances, Ont.; two nieces, Renee (Jon) Weaver of San Francisco, Calif, and Lynn (Raoul) Lufbery of International Falls, Mn.; and four great-nephews, Greg Betzing and Reid Betzing (Jamie) of Colorado, Scott (Stephanie) Matson of Louisiana, and Todd (Brooke) Matson of Virginia and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elko and Mary Sofronuk; sister, Ann Frenette; and brother-in-law, Armand Frenette.
At Helene’s request, cremation has taken place.
A family graveside service will take place at a later date.
