It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Neurinski announces her passing, with family members by her side, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
Helen, known to everyone as “Baba,” was born May 19, 1927 in Fort Frances to Phillip and Eva Paripa.
She lived in Fort Frances her entire life, attending the local public and secondary schools. She graduated from the Success and Business College in Winnipeg, Man., returning to Fort Frances to work at the local paper mill, retiring from Boise Cascade in October, 1983.
Helen was united in marriage to William Neurinski on June 21, 1947.
Helen was a charter member of the St. Anna’s Club, a member of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Literary Society, and a charter member of the church choir. Helen was devoted to her church and her faith.
After retirement, Helen and Bill enjoyed travelling. They visited many different countries, spending their winter months in Arizona and California.
Later in life, she devoted herself to those in need at Rainycrest.
Holidays and special occasions were very important to Helen. She would prepare traditional Ukrainian dishes that every family member enjoyed. Her borsch, holubtsi (cabbage rolls), pyrohy, kalasha, studenetz, and kapasta soup were everyone’s favourite.
It was very important to have her grandchildren’s favourite dishes ready for them whenever they visited.
Helen never missed recognizing a birthday or special occasion. It was important for her to send a special card to each and every family member. She treasured the times spent talking with her children and grandchildren.
Helen leaves behind her daughter, Carol (Mike) Frisch; sons, Bill and Paul (Susan) Neurinski; grandchildren, Jonathan (Janice), Christopher (Rana), Dayle, and Jill (Terry) Neurinski, and Travis (Lisa) and Nathan (Allie) Frisch; and great-grandchildren, Travis Wm. (T.J.), Vincent, and Dominic Frisch, and Logan and Brayden Neurinski.
A visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with prayers being offered at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Fr. Bohdan Statkevych officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Jonathan, Christopher, Dayle, and Jill Neurinski, and Travis and Nathan Frisch.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of Helen’s friends.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to St. George’s Ukrainian Church or Riverside Health Care Foundation—Rainycrest Long-Term Care.
