It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Jean Broman announces her passing, with her family by her side, on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Helen was born on Dec. 21, 1926 in Fort Frances to Elmer and Jean Isberg. She lived in Fort Frances all her life and worked at various businesses.
She was united in marriage to Matt Broman in 1948 and together they raised five children, Doug, Gary, Gayle, Mark, and David.
Helen was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, as well as the Rebekah Lodge. She also was a member of the Fort Frances Curling Club and enjoyed curling in her early years.
Helen made a friend of everyone she met and because she was born and raised in Fort Frances, it seemed that every person she stopped to talk to was someone she had attended school with.
In 1967, she and Matt purchased a lake property and in 1980, their boys built them a cabin, known to the family as “Helen’s Highrise.” She loved her lake home, having family and friends up to play “Hoot & Holler Reef Point Smear” or just to visit and enjoy the beauty of Rainy Lake.
She spent every moment she could there, as it was where she was the happiest.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Matt, on Jan. 24, 1985; parents, Elmer and Jean Isberg; grandson, Michael Sheldon; sister, Eileen Cox, and brother-in-law, Tom Cox; brother, Glen Isberg; and brother-in-law, Blake Nicol.
She leaves behind her children, Doug, Gary of Fort Frances, Ont., Gayle (Wayne) Sheldon of Bowser, B.C., and Mark (Bonnie) and David (Roz) of Fort Frances, Ont; grandchildren, Michelle (Jordie) Rheault, Nicole Broman, Danielle Broman, Christopher Broman, Rylee Broman (Brennan), Ken Hawrylak, and Andrea (Mark) Wilkins; and great-grandchildren, Justin and Madison Rheault, Peter Spuzak, Amelia and Rya Hawrylak, and Brody and Kowan Wilkins.
She also is survived by her sisters, Elsie Nicol and Leigh Isberg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, 250 Church St., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 1C8.
