HELEN IRENE BOWMAN

Helen Bowman, 101, of 600 Church St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000.
She was born Aug. 5, 1899 in Newbury, Ont. to the late Robert and Jane Johnston. Helen moved to Stratton, Ont. in 1906.
On May 11, 1921, she was united in marriage to Clarence Bowman. Following their marriage, they lived in Sleeman, Ont. for many years and raised animals, primarily fox and mink.
In the 1940s, they moved to Emo, Ont. In 1995, she moved to Fort Frances, where she had lived since.
Helen was very involved with knitting and chocheting, and was very proud of her button quilts.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Bowman, on Feb. 16, 1950; three sisters, Sylvia Sundin, Gladys McGrath, and Myrtle Noble; four brothers, Roy, William, Lawrence, and Clifford Johnston; and two sons-in-law, Alex Yuill and Ted Bovair.
Helen is survived by four children, Sylvia Bovair of Langley, B.C., Freda Yuill of Fort Frances, Ont., Alphild Yuill and husband, John, of Red Rock, Ont., and Gordon Bowman and wife, Rita, of Port Hope, Ont.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Terry Yuill, Brenda (Yuill) Maenpaa, Sharon (Yuill) Tracy, Kenny Yuill (Jean), Donald Yuill, Judy (Bovair) Raynard, Valerie (Bovair) Reese, Dennis Bowman, Mary (Bowman) Chilvers, Peter Bowman, Susan Bowman, and Gordon Yuill (Colleen); 12 great-grandchildren, Christine (Raynard) McNurney, Marc Yuill, Kerry Yuill, Dale Tracy and Jordan Tracy, Kristen Maenpaa, Shauna Maenpaa, Scott Maenpaa, Max Reese, Jack Reese, Lawrence Reese, and Adam Chilvers; one great-great-grandchild, Cody Yuill; one brother, Leslie Johnston of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Merna Major officiated, with interment in Fort Frances Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers were Gordon Yuill, Terry Yuill, Ken Yuill, Donald Yuill, Jim Tracy, and Jarma Maenpaa.
Honourary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Susan Bowman, Mary Chilvers, Brenda Maenpaa, Sharon Tracy, Judy Raynard, and Valerie Reese.
