HELEN ESTHER FEDORUK

It is with great sadness that the family of

Helen Esther Fedoruk

announces her passing on March 21, 2022 at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances at the age of 93 with family at her side.

Esther was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 17, 1928 to Olga and Gottlieb Rosnow. As a young woman, Esther lived in Winnipeg and worked as a hairstylist at ‘Sables for Beauty’. In her early twenties, she moved to Fort Frances and continued her hairstyling at the ‘Denisalon’. Mom married Dad in 1952 and together they raised seven children. She was happy to be a stay-at-home Mom, and after her children were all in school, she decided to go back to school and pursue a nursing career. Esther received her RNA diploma and worked on the maternity floor and in the nursery at LaVerendrye Hospital until her retirement. This was a job that Mom absolutely loved.

After her retirement, Esther enjoyed helping others through volunteer work with numerous organizations, Church of the Lutheran Hour, Rainycrest Auxiliary (Mom enjoyed her time volunteering at the Tuck Shop), Hospital Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion and Palliative Care. She spent many hours sitting with palliative patients who were alone, without family. Mom had a wonderful caring heart.

Esther had endless talents; sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, gardening, canning, and best of all, Mom was a wonderful cook! The family all enjoyed her homemade cinnamon buns and donuts, and her famous perogies.

Mom had a vision to buy a place on the lake and she made this a reality in 1976. The best of times were spent at Esther and Sambo’s cabin at Bears Pass. Many memories and endless laughs were made over fishing, fish fries, swimming, games, dinners and sleepovers. It’s amazing how a one bedroom cabin could sleep 30!

After Dad’s passing in 2013, Mom left her home that she loved on Phair Avenue and became a resident at Rainycrest Long Term Care. Dementia did not take away Mom’s kind spirit or her helpful hand. You would often find Esther wheeling residents back to their rooms after lunch or dinner.

A favourite outing of Mom’s was when her daughters would pick her up and take her to Tim Hortons. Mom LOVED her coffee!

Esther will be greatly missed by her children Sam (Ricki) Fedoruk, Ken (Nathalie) Fedoruk, Janet Fedoruk (John Busch), Karen (David) Green, Donna (Jeff) Doman and Patty (Brian) Curtis; son-in-law Cliff Enns; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mae Fedoruk and Cassie Fedoruk and numerous nieces and nephews.

Esther was predeceased by her husband Sambo; daughter Lori; great-granddaughter Vayda;
her parents Olga and Gottlieb; brothers Harry, Albert (Dolores) and Oscar; in-laws Sam and Lucy Fedoruk, Lena and Lindy Wallen and John Fedoruk.

Mom was a kind and generous person who cared deeply about helping others and making a difference.

“I’d rather be lost at Bears Pass than found at home.”

We LOVE you MOM, Forever in our hearts!

A private service and burial will take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Esther’s memory can be made to the Rainycrest Auxiliary or a charity of your choice.
