Helen Ann Kuryla (nee Coran), 82, of 1317 13th Ave., International Falls, Mn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 at Falls Memorial Hospital in International Falls.
She was born Sept. 28, 1920 in International Falls to Giovanni and Clara Coran (nee Montalto).
Helen was a life-long resident of International Falls. She graduated from Falls High School in 1938, and enjoyed staying active with her class reunions. She also was a housekeeper for the Oblate Fathers for many years.
She was united in marriage to Mike Kuryla on Sept. 28, 1940.
Helen was a member of the Ukrainian Society, St. Thomas Catholic Church, Women of the Moose, Al Hayes Auxiliary, Widows Luncheon Group, and Koochiching Seniors Center.
She also loved her Bingo, cards, and bus trips to the casinos with her friends.
Helen was predeceased by her parents; husband, Mike Kuryla; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hanks Kuryla; brothers, John and Nello; and sisters, Mathilda Piekarski and Norma Pellicci.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Iverne) Kuryla, John (Linda) Kuryla, James Kuryla, Thomas (Peggy) Kuryla, Gerald Kuryla, and Paul Kuryla; daughters, Chrisanne (Joe) Polus and Margaret (Wayne) Holmestad; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Kuryla, Tami Tessier, Lindy Mettler, Melissa Walls, Heather Kuryla, Chad Kuryla, Cory Kuryla, Damon Polus, Kaily Polus, Mindy Holmestad, and Cody Holmestad; and nine great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Marlo (Jenny) Coran; two sisters, Mary Keenan and Blanche (Bill) Chowan; sister-in-law, Gertie Coran; and special care-giver, Becky Griffin.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Green-Larsen Mortuary in International Falls, Mn., with rosary prayers at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls, with Fr. Roger Bergkamp, OMI officiating.
Interment in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
