Hazel Mary Anderson, of Stratton, Ont., passed away Friday, March 13, 1998 in Emo Hospital. She was born in Stratton on Oct. 28, 1904, the daughter of Edward and Sarah Lockhart.
She was married to Roy Anderson on Dec. 19, 1922. Roy and Hazel were the first couple to be married in Stratton who were both born in Stratton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy, in 1955; and by three sons, Glenn, Donald, and Allan; daughter, Shirley; her parents; two brothers, George and Jim; three grandchildren, Laurie Dobson, Garth Kliner, and Maureen Begers; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda Marchuk and Greg Godri.
She is survived by her children, Joyce Dobson of California, Ross Anderson (Francise) of Stratton, and Merle Kliner (Robert) of Calgary; daughter-in-law, Leone Anderson of Stratton; 26 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Hazel and Roy retired from farming in 1952 and moved to Fort Frances, where they lived for several years. Hazel then moved back to Stratton, where she lived for the past 25 years, the last eight in Morley Meadowside Manor.
She was a member of the United Church Women, and devoted her life to her family.
The memorial service was held in Stratton United Church on Wednesday, March 18, at 2 p.m., with Rev. John McFarlane officiating.
The organist was her son-in-law, Robert Kliner.
Honourary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Miles Kliner, Ron Dobson, Jim Anderson, Robert Anderson, Ken Anderson, Alex Anderson, Stanley Anderson, Greg Anderson, Doug Anderson, Scott Anderson, Tom Anderson, and Rob Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Church of Stratton or the Women’s Auxiliary of Emo Hospital.
Hazel’s family wish to extend a sincere thank you to doctors and staff at Emo Hospital, Rev. John and Mrs. McFarlane, and friends who visited her in the hospital, and a special thank you to Riet Carnahan of Stratton.
