HAZEL JUANITA WOOD

Hazel Juanita Wood, 86, of 713 Webster Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Tuesday, July 14, 1998 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Hazel was born July 23, 1911 in San Diego, Cal. to the late Robert and Edith Dimit. As an infant, she moved with her family to Togo, Sask. until 1913, when she moved with family to various locations in the mid-western United States. In 1928, she moved with her family by covered wagon to Sleeman, Ont.
On Jan. 5, 1931, Hazel was united in marriage to Elmer R.M. Wood. In 1938, they settled in Fort Frances, where she lived until her passing.
Hazel was a member of the Redwing Rebekah Lodge #109, Order of the Eastern Star-Evergreen Chapter, and U.C.W. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and handiwork, and playing cards, but most of all she loved to take care of her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Wood, on June 16, 1987; daughter, Aleatha DeFrancesco; son-in-law, Frank Wiley; two brothers, Laverne and Lloyd Dimit; and four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Alvera Wiley of Boiestown, N.B.; son, George Elmer Wood and wife, Gloria, of Fort Frances, Ont.; son-in-law, John DeFrancesco of Emo, Ont.; seven grandchildren, Juanita and husband, Wayne Bellinger, of Thunder Bay, Ont., Valerie Wiley and husband, Joe Schenkels, of Boiestown, N.B., Kathryn and husband, Jeff Makl, of Kenora, Ont., Donald Wood and wife, Mona Lisa, of Winnipeg, Man., Anna DeFrancesco of Emo, Ont., Sarah DeFrancesco of South Africa, and Angelo DeFrancesco of Emo, Ont.; seven great-grandchildren, Aaron and Megan Bellinger, Elliot Schenkels, Samantha and Travis Makl, and Eric and Lisa Wood; one brother, Charles Dimit and wife, Elizabeth, of Emo, Ont.; two sisters, Clara Mason and Florence Hodges, both of Rainy River, Ont.; two sisters-in-law, Amy Wood of Fort Frances, Ont., and Judy Dimit of Cochenour, Ont.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 18, 1998 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Jeraldine Bjornson officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends visited Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. The Rebekah Lodge #109 memorial service was held at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers were Merlin Enge, Dennis Hodges, Henry Mason, Carl Wood, Floyd Wood, and Stan Zajac.
