HAZEL EDITH BRUSVEN

Hazel Edith Brusven, 92, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, March 11, 2005 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances.
Hazel was born Sept. 22, 1912 in Stony Mountain, Man. The family moved to Creelman, Sask. when she was a child. She was raised in Saskatchewan and as a young woman worked for Tommy Douglas and the NDP at the Parliament Building as a stenographer.
When attending an army dance in Regina, she met George Brusven and after the war, on Aug. 12, 1946, they were united in marriage.
Together they settled in Morson, Ont., starting the Grassy Narrows camp, which they ran until 1968. After selling the business, they stayed on another 10 years helping the new owners.
In 1997, they moved to Fort Frances.
Hazel was very active in the Morson community, helping out in any way she could. She was very proud to be a life member of the Morson Women’s Institute.
She leaves behind her husband, George Brusven of Fort Frances; children, Joan and husband, Gerry Hanson, of Crozier, Bob and Sherry of Nelson, B.C., and Gail and husband, Pio Parisi, of North Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren, Sue Hanson, Tracey (Steve) Newhouse, Mike (Susie) Hanson, Chad (Tricia) Hanson, Lars Brusven, Torin Brusven, Jen Parisi, and Nicole Parisi; and great-grandchildren, Emillee and Nicolas Newhouse, and Andrew Hanson.
Hazel was predeceased by her mother, Myrtle Dunn; father, Cameron Cathcart; brother, Earl Cathcart; and stepfather, Robert Dunn.
A private family service will be held.
