Hazel Anderson (nee Benjamin), of 113-1301 Elizabeth St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006.
Hazel was born in Rainy River, Ont., on Aug. 21, 1933. She was raised in North Branch, Ont. and married Leonard Anderson on Nov. 22, 1950. Hazel and Leonard raised their family of four in Atikokan, Ont. and moved back to the Fort Frances area in 1974.
Hazel worked as a tree-planter during the spring in the 1960s, and had fond memories of those days and the people she worked with.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Thelma Haines (Bill Baufeld) of Kamloops, B.C.; sons, Leonard (Judy) of Atikokan, Ont., Bruce of Fort Frances, Ont., and Benjamin (Carolyn) of Atikokan; grandchildren, Crystal and Casey, Joey and Jamie, Marie and Cody, and Eli and Emily;, and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Miya, and Joshua.
Also surviving are her sister, Alvina of Vancouver, B.C.; and brothers, Mervin (Margaret), Ralph (Edna), and Alvin of Fort Frances, Ont., Alfred (June) of Devlin, Ont., Marion (Doreen) of Atikokan Ont., Dean (Olga) of Dryden, Ont., and Don (Julie) of Cranbrook, B.C.
Hazel also leaves one uncle, Jack Williamson; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; as well as chosen daughter, Stella Stromness, her husband, Ed, and their sons, Travis and Devin.
She was predeceased by her parents, Matilda and David Benjamin; and her husband, Leonard, in 1991.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, Ont., with Rev. Marietta Marshal officiating.
Interment to take place at a later date.
