Dad was born in Thoedore, Sask.
on Oct. 16, 1920. He grew up helping on various farms during the Depression years and later mined in Sheridan, Man. In 1944, he proudly enlisted to serve his country overseas as a corporal with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles.
Following the war, he remained in Germany and Holland with the occupational forces. Following his discharge from the army, he returned to Theodore and worked as a store clerk.
He met Dorreen at this time and they were married in Fort Frances on Nov. 29, 1950. The lure of Northwestern Ontario, and prospect of work at the local paper mill, helped the young couple settle here to raise their family.
He spent 34 years working at he paper mill, retiring in 1985.
During retirement, Dad enjoyed working in his yard and was proud of his yearly wonderful vegetable garden—the produce of which he shared with family and friends.
He was a member of the Knox United Church and Royal Canadian Legion Br. # 29. He also was an active member of the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau. His greatest joys always were his family and following their varied pursuits.
He was a kind, loyal, and hardworking man. His three grandchildren will always know what the word “grandpa” means. He ws one of the best. We are sure going to miss him.

Don’t think of him as gone away
His journey has just begun,
Life holds so many facets
This Earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears,
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
That we could know today,
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of him as living,
In the hearts of those he touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost
And he was loved so much.
