HARRIS WILSON

With heavy hearts, the family of Harris Wilson announce his passing at La Verendrye General Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019.
Harris was born on Oct. 28, 1939 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was blessed to be the chosen son of the late Ewart and Hazel Wilson.
Harris met his love and best friend, Marlene (nee Mills) in 1964 and united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1965, just celebrating 54 years of marriage.
Harris was proud to serve 26 years in the Town of Fort Frances with the Fort Frances Police Force, retiring in 1995 as acting chief of police.
Harris loved his career and would often share his stories of his time with the department.
Harris loved the outdoors, in particular Rainy Lake.
Together, he and Marlene spent 49 years enjoying “cabin life”–first at Birch Island and then at Hopkins Bay.
Our dad spent many hours of blood, sweat and tears working and maintaining the cabin to be enjoyed with his family.
He passed on his love of the lake to his three daughters and loved listening to their laughing and shenanigans.
He was overjoyed when his “girls,” their husbands, and eventually his grandchildren would gather each summer to spend time together.
He often commented, “The cabin has kept our family together.”
More recently, he was proud and thrilled by building a new garage with a loft to accommodate his family and to see his son-in-laws working together.
Harris was an avid sports fan and never, ever missed an opportunity to watch, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays, or the Minnesota Vikings.
He loved fishing, hunting and would often reminisce about his many hunting adventures with the Crowe boys.
Harris was predeceased by his parents, Ewart and Hazel Wilson; sisters, Velda Hnybida and Elaine Kiddle (White); and his mother-in-law, Alice Mills.
Harris is survived by his wife, Marlene; and daughters, Lana Woodgate (Dave), Marcy Wilson-Beck (Joey), and Robyn Wilson (John Calder).
He also leaves to mourn him his four special grandchildren, Wil Calder, Jack and Mason Beck, and his “favourite” granddaughter, Raegan Woodgate; his “fur baby,” Sophee; sister, Laura Fedoruk; and sister-in-law, Donna Howells (Kelvin Lee); along with many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held for Harris’ immediate family at Hopkins Bay.
