HAROLD THOMAS DENNIS

Harold Thomas Dennis, 79, of Mine Centre, Ont., passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born Sept. 1, 1926 in Kenville, Man. to the late Thomas and Jennie Dennis.
In his earlier years, Harold worked for the Department of Highways in Manitoba, and then for the C.N.R. in both Manitoba and later in Northwestern Ontario.
During the time the highway was being completed between Fort Frances and Atikokan in 1964, Harold built, owned, and operated the Mine Centre Resort in Mine Centre until his retirement in 1992.
His life was centered around operating the business with his wife, Dorie, and children, and being at the lake where they lived and enjoying the outdoors.
Harold was known for his jovial personality. He took delight in a great joke and played many a trick over the years. His grandsons were his pride and he spent many hours enjoying watching them play together.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Jennie; one brother, Norman Dennis; one sister, Norah Ferguson; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Readman.
Harold is survived by his wife, Doris (Dorie) Dennis of Mine Centre, Ont.; three sons, Murray Dennis and wife, Barbara, Lyle Dennis, and Fredrick Dennis and wife, Kimberley, all of Mine Centre, Ont.; and four grandsons, Nicolas, Reed, Daniel, and Kyle Dennis.
He also is survived by one brother, Donald Dennis and wife, Margaret, of Swan River, Man.; two sisters, Dora and husband, Archie Doan, of Riding Mountain, Man., and Laura and husband, Rodney Vopni, of Swan River, Man.; one brother-in-law, Gerry Readman and wife, Arlene, of Green Bay, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Pat and husband, John Coberg, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Becky and husband, Larry Sweigard, of Mine Centre, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Diane Clifford officiating.
A luncheon followed at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances.
Honourary pallbearers were Clark Trantham, Larry Sweigard, John Coberg, Gary Skon, Roy Avis, Ron O’Neil, David Bliss, Terry Hyatt, and Kenneth Cone.
