GWENDOLYN MARGARET CORNELL

It is with the deepest sadness that the family of Gwendolyn Margaret Cornell announces her passing at her home in Atikokan, Ont. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008.
Gwen was born in Devlin, Ont. on July 22, 1936 and moved with her family to Atikokan in 1948, where she lived until her passing, with some time spent in Winnipeg, Man., Thunder Bay, Ont., and British Columbia along the way.
She married Eldon Cornell on Nov. 28, 1959.
She worked as an operator for Northern Telephone, then operated Gwen’s Flowers for many years. She also was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, and enjoyed drawing, arranging flowers, and other crafts.
Gwen is survived by her children, Mike (Deb) Ritchat of Okotoks, Alta., Carol (Lorne) Nelson of Dryden, Ont., Larry (Maria) Ritchat and Bill (Lynn) Cornell, both of Sparwood, B.C., David Cornell of Fort McMurray, Alta., and Craig (Donna) Cornell of Westbank, B.C.; daughter-in-law Roselyn Ritchat of Atikokan, Ont.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are her siblings, Keith Strachan and Ethel (Alex) Broski, both of Atikokan, Ont., and Sharon (Peter) Braun of Saskatoon, Sask.; sisters-in-law, Grete (Lynn) Gibson of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Sophie Cornell of Atikokan, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Oprah Strachan; husband, Eldon Cornell; son, Robert Ritchat; sister, Roxie Gingras; brother-in-law, John Gingras; and sister-in-law, Joyce Strachan.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 8 at Riverview United Church in Atikokan, with Pastor David Baxter officiating. Interment was at Eldon’s side at Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan.
