Gurtle (Bo) Readman, 92, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont., formerly of Mine Centre, Ont., passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 14, 1911 in Fort Frances to the late William and Eva Readman. Bo lived in Fort Frances until the late ’50s and then moved to Mine Centre, where he resided until going to Rainycrest.
He loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting.
On Feb. 7, 1935, Bo was united in marriage to Muriel Payne. He also was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.
He was predeceased by his wife, Muriel Readman on Jan. 10, 1993; one son, Ken Readman; one daughter, Constance Readman in infancy; one grandson, Troy Readman; three brothers, Harry, Ed, and Jack Readman; and three sisters, Evelyn Hammond, Doris Beck, and Anne Voisin.
Bo is survived by one son, Gerald (Gerry) Readman and wife, Arlene, of Athelstane, Wis.; and three daughters, Dorie and husband, Harold Dennis, of Mine Centre, Ont., Patricia (Pat) and husband, John Coberg, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Rebecca and husband, Larry Sweigard, of Mine Centre, Ont.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Trenton Readman and wife Jodelle, of Green Bay, Wis., Tyler Readman and wife, Roxanne, of Bonduel, Wis., Amanda and Alaina Readman of Green Bay, Wis., Murray Dennis and wife, Barbara, Lyle Dennis, and Frederick Dennis and wife, Kimberley, all of Mine Centre, Ont., Lee Coberg and wife, Lois, of Vancouver, B.C., Cyndi Ward of Fort Frances, Ont., Jessica Sweigard of Mine Centre, Ont., and Matthew Sweigard of Fort Frances, Ont., and nine great-grandchildren, Christiana and Nicholaus Coberg, Daniel and Kyle Dennis, Beth Ward, Austin and Breanna Readman, and Nicolas and Reed Dennis.
One sister, Madge and husband, Jim Hammond, of Fort Frances, Ont.; one sister-in-law, Connie and husband, Joe Bliss, of Mine Centre, Ont.; one brother-in-law, Chuck Hammond of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Diane Clifford of the Free Methodist Church officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers were Fred Dennis, Lyle Dennis, Matt Sweigard, Trenton Readman, Tyler Readman, and Warren McMillen
Honourary pallbearers were David Bliss, Ken Carlson, Joe Eisenzopf, Art McMillen, Murray Dennis, and Lee Coberg.
