Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.
Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant, Greta Hildegard (Hilda) Laverdure (nee Peters).
Hilda Laverdure was given life by her creator and was born on Feb. 24, 1926 in Jakanowen, Germany, the child of Robert Peters and Tiofile Peters (nee Metzker).
On March 3, 1926, she received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. In 1941, she publicly confessed her faith and was confirmed. She received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood.
On Dec. 20, 1945, she received the gift of a beloved companion in her spouse, Emile Laverdure. She was blessed with the gift of children, Cheryl (Terry) Hostland, Rene (Laureen) Laverdure, and Andre.
God blessed Hilda’s life with many special people as she served God in her vocations at home, church, work, and in the community. Finally, on Sept. 25, 2012, God blessed Hilda with a holy death and took her home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.
Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Emile; newborn son, Andre, daughter-in-law, Laureen; parents, Robert and Tiofile Peters, sister; Ella; brothers-in-law, Norman, Clifford, and Walter; nephew, Roger; niece, Carol and her husband, Nelson; uncle, Fred Metzker; and cousin-in-law, Bill Brown.
Hilda is survived by, and will be dearly missed by, her daughter, Cheryl (Terry) Hostland; son, Rene Laverdure; grandchildren, Gordon Hostland (Katherine), Lissa Hostland (Darryl), and Derek Laverdure (Kim); siblings, Erna Selman, Liz Hinrichs, Ernest (Shirley) Peters, and Freda Flewelling; brother-in-law, Duane Peterson; cousin, Bertha Brown; and her many nieces and nephews.
Mom was the best mom and grandmother there could be—we will miss her so very, very much. She loved to dance with Emile and loved to cook, and many enjoyed her homemade meals.
She also loved her pastor and her church, doing her word search, reading, Bible study, going out for lunch after, getting together with her family for birthday celebrations, etc., and seeing her kids and grandkids. She did some camping, and travelling with her siblings and kids, and loved Hawaii.
And on her final trip on her transfer to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, she said, “I enjoyed my plane ride; what a beautiful plane that was!”
So, thank you, God, for that memory, and that we were able to talk and visit with her before she went to be with the Lord. We are truly blessed!
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God, our Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our sister, Hilda.
A service was held Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at The Church of the Lutheran Hour in Fort Frances, with Rev. Jacob Quast officiating.
