GORDON LOUIS MARSH

Gordon Louis Marsh, 69, of R.R. #1, Devlin, Ont., passed away suddenly Saturday, March 21, 1998 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. He was born Sept. 19, 1928 in Sleeman, Ont. to the late James Robert Marsh and Larena Dorothy Marsh (nee Thompson).
Mr. Marsh had lived most of his life in Northwestern Ontario. He attended school in Winnipeg, Man. He had worked as a lineman and a customer service representative for Ontario Hydro for 39 years, and had been stationed in Dryden, Thunder Bay, Atikokan, and Fort Frances.
He also was the owner/operator with his wife, Edna, of the Voyageur’s Wilderness Lodge on Clearwater Lake.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, canoeing, camping, and cutting wood. He also was a nature lover, and loved feeding the wildlife, including deer, birds, and foxes. He was a jack of all trades, and enjoyed doing carpentry work, electrical, and plumbing jobs. He also was known to be a practical joker at times.
He was a member of the Pistol Club in Atikokan and Fort Frances, and also was a member of the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
Above all, his love for his family was most prominent.
Gordon was united in marriage Dec. 27, 1949 to the former Edna Brown, who survives along with their eight children, Dennis and wife, Joanne, of Colorado Springs, Col., Cliff and wife, Roxanne, of Kamloops, B.C., Sherry and husband, Jim George, of Fort Frances, Ont., Penny and husband, Andrew Stilwell, of Winnipeg, Man., Wendy Kuchinski of Winnipeg, Man., Trudy and husband, John Kergon, of Thunder Bay, Ont., Dale and wife, Rena, of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Joanne and husband, Ernie Matthews, of Dryden, Ont.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mildred and husband, Mike Smyrski, of Winnipeg, Man., and Betty and husband, Alvin Hagarty, of Rainy River, Ont.; one brother, Earl Marsh and wife, Betty, of St. Anne, Man.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Larena Marsh; and three brothers, Clifford, Donald, and Douglas.
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 27, 1998 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Friends may visit Thursday evening, March 26, 1998 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Honourary pallbearers will be Milhan Cawston, Richard Thompson, Bruce Helliar, Harlan Faragher, Chuck Halverson, and David Bragg.
