GORDON ALEXANDER BALL

Gordon Alexander Ball, 83, passed away Aug. 25, 2003 at Nakusp, B.C. He was born Nov. 19, 1919 at Harrowby, Man. to William and Mary Ball.
He started school at age of six at Harrowby. In 1932, the family moved to Rainy River District near Emo, Ont., where he continued his education at Dobie School, north of Emo.
He first was employed on the Kenora highway project as cookee at Musky Bay construction camp at $24 per month. Later, he worked in Shevlin Clarke’s logging camps in Quetico Park.
He also worked in the gold mining area of Straw Lake for two summers.
During the ’40s, he worked at the Steep Rock draining project near Atikokan, Ont. during the winter months, and spent summers guiding on Lake of the Woods, Crow Lake, and the surrounding lake country.
After the war, he moved to B.C., went back to college, and started a career in the accounting department of a large forest products company. During 30 years with this company, he was located at Castlegar, B.C., Vancouver head office, and at Nakusp, B.C. He retired in 1984.
On Aug. 25, 1953, he married Colleen Laura Hayes, formerly of Barwick, Ont.
Both Gordon and Colleen loved the outdoors, and their retirement years were spent camping, fishing, and exploring the lakes and rivers of Western Canada, plus numerous trips to the Yukon and Alaska.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Ronald, in 1961 and a brother, Kenneth, in 1990; and one sister, Lillian Benson, in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen of Nakusp, B.C.; and one sister, Marian Relkoff of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.
He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral, by request. After cremation, ashes will be interred at Amisk, Alta.
