GLORIA PURDY CLEAVELEY

Gloria Purdy Cleaveley, 81, of 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Gloria was born March 12, 1931 in Winnipeg, Man. to the late John and Wilhelmina Patterson.
In 1954, she met her husband, John, and for the next 45 years followed him from town to town throughout Northwestern Ontario. She often reminisced about the good times in Minaki and Geraldton, where some lifelong friendships were developed.
Gloria will be remembered for her prowess in the kitchen. Her favourite time of the year was Christmas. She would start baking in November and her cinnamon buns and Swiss cookies would never last long—sometimes not even until Christmas.
She was especially proud of, and a fantastic grandmother to, Jennifer and Andrew. Both grandchildren used to spend the summers at Eva Lake with their grandparents and a special bond was developed.
Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Laurel (Ed) Halvorsen of Fort Frances, Ont.; son, David (Rita) Cleaveley of Dryden, Ont.; and two grandchildren, Jennifer of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Andrew of Geraldton, Ont.
Also surviving are her sister, Beverly (Dale) Steward of Vernon, B.C.; aunt, Margaret Purdy of Winnipeg, Man.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband and companion of 45 years, John Cleaveley, in 2000.
At Mom’s request, there will be no funeral services.
Interment will take place in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances with family and a few close friends.
Should friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to Rainycrest Long-Term Care Memorial Fund c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8
