GLORIA ANNA MARIE SWANSON

Gloria Swanson, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away in the early-morning hours of Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Rainycrest in Fort Frances, where she had resided for the past year.
Born March 17, 1928 in Kipling, Sask., Gloria was the first in a family of four girls and one boy born to Milton and Martha (Ransom) Swanson.
She moved with her family to Fort Frances in early January, 1940, where she lived most of her life.
She attended Robert Moore School and Fort Frances Collegiate, and continued on to university in Winnipeg and Toronto, where she studied education and library art.
Gloria is survived by her sisters, Elaine McMain of Summerberry, Sask. and her children, Linden, Shannon, Brenda, and Kelly; Audette (Don) Clunas of Prescott, Ont. and their children, Jamie, David, Christopher, and Mark; Jeannine (Gordon) Cornell of La Vallee, Ont. and their children, Deborah, Kim, and Doug; and her brother, Lorne (Agnes) Swanson of Pinawa, Man. and their children, Jim, Gary, Tim, and Lisa.
She is also survived by her aunt, Karen, and family of Brandon, Man. and many great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and their siblings; cousin, Anetta Swanson; nephew, Bertram Swanson; and brother-in-law, David McMain.
Throughout her working life, she taught school in rural Manitoba, and also worked at the Fort Frances Public Library and the Fort Frances Times.
Gloria lived independently since the loss of her parents, and was helped by her sister Jeannine’s family. Special thanks are offered to Gloria’s niece, Pat Clysdale-Cornell and family, for the shopping outings and concerts, and many, many other things that she did to brighten Gloria’s life.
A private family burial is planned, and a memorial service will be held this summer when her out-of-town family members are able to attend.
