Glenn Manty

Glenn Manty, 64, of 1024 York Ave. N., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, July 18, 2002 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born April 5, 1938 in Fort William, Ont. to the late Eino and Caroline Manty. Glenn spent his early years in Dinorwic and grew up in South Gillies. In 1961, he moved to Fort Frances, where he has resided since.
He started work as a surveyor with the Department of Highways in 1955, and worked until he was forced to take early retirement in 1986 due to M.S.
Glenn was considered the department’s premier bridge surveyor, who had worked on many bridges in the Rainy River and Thunder Bay districts.
Before his disability, Glenn loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He also liked sports, especially curling and baseball on television. Glenn loved spending time with his grandchildren, which he thought the world of.
He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances. Glenn was a strong-willed and determined individual who didn’t give up easily against the toughest odds.
He was predeceased by one sister, Laura Falden; and one special uncle, Charles Manty.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Sheila Manty of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sons, Donald Manty and wife, Shelly, of Alberton, Ont., and Ken Manty and wife, Cindy, of Devlin, Ont.; one daughter, Heather and husband, Joe Miller, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and six grandchildren, Zac, Sami, Jordan, and Kari-Lyn Manty, and Kayla and Jason Miller.
He also is survived by one brother, Bud Manty and wife, Hester, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; two sisters, Frances and husband, Allan Kivinen, of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Ruth and husband, Walter Giba, of Nolalu; special aunt and uncle, Jack Couch and wife, Elsie, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Marietta Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Leeper Cemetery at a later date.
Honourary pallbearers will be Joe Dorie, Bill Gadd, Nevin Bonot, Myles Kinnear, Forrest McQuaker, and Jon Voutt.
