GLADYS M. WHALEN

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gladys M. Whalen, on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 with her family at her side at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Gladys was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. on March 4, 1930 to the late John Henry and Mary-Mellottie Arnold.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dean C. Whalen; two sisters, Elsie Dustin and Rita Arnold; sister-in-law, Fern Weir; brothers-in-law, Herb Dustin and Harper Weir; father-in-law, Daniel Francis Whalen; and mother-in-law, Ruth Adeline Whalen.
Gladys excelled at being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her life. She did not ask nor want for anything more. As long as she had her husband, Dean, her six children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in her life, she was at her happiest.
Most importantly, and above all else, Gladys directed her heart and love towards her husband her family. Her steadfast love over the years will always make her unforgettable, unique, and a very special lady.
Gladys also cherished her friends for the life-long friendship they carried over many years, Julie (Fred) Volk, Elsie (George) Hampton, Annie (Arnie) Lahti, and Betty (Milton) Glueheisen.
Gladys leaves to mourn her six children, Rick (June) Whalen and family, Carol Spuzak and family, Kathy (Peter) Spuzak and family, David (Dianna) Whalen and family, Bruce (Kym) Whalen and family, and Connie (Lennie) Mann and family; and one sister, Eleanor (Cyril) Chabot and family.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held Monday, Sept. 20, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances. Rev. Diane Clifford will officiate, followed by interment.
A celebration of Gladys’ life will be held following the memorial service at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Pallbearers will be Gladys’ granddaughters, Nicole, Britainee, Natalia, Ashley, Jaimee-Lee, Carrie, and Charmaine; as well as her great-granddaughters, Alexandra and Kenna.
Honourary pallbearers will be her daughter-in-laws, June Whalen, Dianna Whalen, and Kym Whalen; and her close friends, Betty Glueheisen, Elsie Hampton, Annie Lahti, and Julie Volk.
