Gladys Elizabeth Desserre, 77, of Emo, Ont., passed away at her residence on Monday, Aug. 1, 2005.
Gladys was born June 23, 1928 in La Vallee, Ont. to the late Norman and Christine Steele. In her early years, she enjoyed crocheting and she had worked at various tourist camps in the district.
She was a very good singer, and enjoyed playing her guitar, singing, and country music. She also loved having people visit her and her door was always open to anyone, anytime.
She was very fond of her cat, “Puss,” will miss her very much.
Gladys is survived by her children, Carol Smith (Bob Pollard) of Fort Frances, Ont., Larry Neilson (Linda) of Calgary, Alta., and Terry Nielson (Dorothy) of Dryden, Ont.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Cindy, Owen, Andrea, Kevin, Barry, Daryl, and Kari; two great-grandchildren, Saphia and Senad; two sisters, Jean Hayes (Wes) and Laverne Desserre (Ken); one brother, Bill Steele; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice, of 36 years; four brothers, Don, Sonny, Garry, and Bob; two sisters, Lyla and Peggy; and grandson, Dale.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo, Ont. Rev. Eileen Bragg officiated, with interment in the Pineridge Cemetery in North Branch, Ont.
The pallbearers were Pat Steele, Brian Neilson, Kenny Desserre Jr., Travis Wolframe, Allan McKay, and Dean Woolsley.
The honourary pallbearers were her grandsons, Daryl Nielson, Barry Nielson, Owen Smith, and Kevin Neilson.
