It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Mr. Gilbert E. Corrigan, age 73, on Friday, July 21, 2000 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital-Port Arthur site.
Gilbert was born on June 2, 1927 in Emo, Ont. to George and Claire Corrigan. He married Phyllis Hergott on Nov. 18, 1947.
Gilbert started his career in the lumber industry at an early age. He managed McLeod Lumber in Atikokan and then moved to Thunder Bay in 1966 to manage North American Lumber where he retired in April of 1991, after 25 years.
Gib was well known throughout Northwestern Ontario for his knowledge in the retail lumber industry. His home and family were his main interests. He loved camping, playing the guitar, singing and dancing. After his retirement he was very active on the property committee of First Church United and he enjoyed the men’s club.
Gib is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, of 52 years, and children, Roxanne Woods (Gordon), Murray (Shannon), Darby Johns (Jerry) and Brad (Tracy). Also surviving are his grandchildren; Shelley and Kerri French, Chandel and Chelci Johns, and Matthew and Hannah Corrigan; step-grandchildren, Donnie Woods (Karen), and Flo-Ann Track (Jeff); great-grandchildren, Donald and Amanda Woods; mother, Claire Corrigan of Emo; brother, Ted Corrigan (Jean); sister, Aileen Rudd (Glen), and several nieces and nephews.
Gilbert was pre-deceased by his father George, brother Ken, and granddaughter Leanne.
Friends may call at Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Ave., on Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services for Mr. Gilbert Corrigan will be held on Monday, July 24, 2000 at First Church United at 1 p.m. Rev. David Sparks will officiate.
Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
