GERTRUDE ESTHER MacMILLAN

It is with great sadness that the family of Gertrude Esther MacMillan announces her passing on Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Emo Hospital—Long-Term Care in Emo, Ont.
Gertrude was born Aug. 20, 1917 in Emo to Arthur and Annie West. As a young woman, she worked with many area families as a housekeeper. It was at one of these homes that she met her husband, Dougald MacMillan. They were married in 1960.
After his passing, Gertrude moved to the Queen Street Manor in Emo, where she resided for almost 20 years. She spent nine months in Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont., returning to the Emo Long-Term Care in March, 2000.
Gertrude was a caring person who was always helping others. She could be found at the post office every day picking up the mail for the Queen Street Manor residents, helping her sister, Claire, with the caretaking of the Calvary Baptist Church, or spending time with her family.
She had a particular fondness of the babies and young children that were brought by to visit.
She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Annie West; husband, Dougald, on Jan., 29, 1979; sisters, Eleanor Stone, Claire Corrigan, and Sylvia Olsen; and brothers, Hugh, Leonard, and Manson West.
Gertrude leaves behind her sister, Edna Alexander, of London, Ont.; stepson, Rocky MacMillan of Atikokan, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
Pastor Andrew Hall will officiate, with interment in Emo Cemetery in Emo.
